Calendula and Chamomile Salve
This salve is made with Calendula flowers grown here at our farm, along with wild harvested chamomile flowers that happily pop up around our gardens. We practice no-spray farming, so you can be sure that you are applying a safe product on your skin. Once dried, the flowers are infused in lard from our pigs that we render ourselves, which are then strained and added to some local beeswax to create this soothing and lovely salve.
Calendula flower is known to be vulnerary, which means that it is a herb that is used to promote the healing of external wounds by promoting cell repair and growth. It is also antiseptic, antifungal, astringent, and antiinflammatory, making it beneficial for treating bruises, swollen glands, burns, sores, skin ulcers, eczema, skin infections, and rashes. Calendula is so soothing and gentle that it can be used on babies to treat diaper rash, cradle cap, and other skin irritations.
Chamomile flower is antiinflammatory and antispasmodic, making it useful for treating insect bites, wounds, eczema, muscle cramps, arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. It is gentle and effective, making it a wonderful addition to this salve.
And as lard contains saturated fats, the same as human skin, it absorbs easily and is highly moisturizing on its own. I render the lard using a low heat, ensuring that the end result is a high quality, odorless oil, perfect for salves and other body products, such as our lard soaps and lotion bars.
Thank you for supporting our small farm as well as other small growers and producers in Nova Scotia. We value your purchase and are grateful to be able to provide you with healthy, non-toxic offerings for your home and body.
For topical use only.
Caution: As with the use of any new product, please test a small amount on skin prior to use. Discontinue use if rash or irritation occurs.
